About Me

I am a therapist, dog lover, and world traveler. My preferred pronouns are she/her/hers. I studied communication and theatre, then spent the first 15 years of my adulthood working in theatre, higher education, and teaching English as a second language. In my thirties I decided to return to school, and earned a master of science degree in Applied Family and Child Studies with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northern Illinois University. It was one of the most intentional and rewarding decisions of my life. I pursued additional training in LGBT+ Allyship and Advocacy, the Gottman Method, EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Prepare and Enrich for couples.
My Therapy Style
I am a relationship therapist, which means that I view most challenges through the lens of how they tie in with the relationships in our lives. This may include relationships with parents, partners, siblings, friends, coworkers, food, self, different parts of the self, etc. I help others explore and manage healthy boundaries, and deepen their understanding of their own emotional experiences and origin stories. My demeanor is calm and friendly, and my person-centered approach incorporates elements of Emotionally Focused Therapy, Attachment Based Therapy, Bowenian Therapy, and Internal Family Systems. As a family systems therapist, I enjoy relationships: exploring them and strengthening them. I take great satisfaction in helping others feel heard and valued, and I believe that all people deserve to feel understood and treated with decency. The relationship between therapist and client is paramount to the success of therapy. My relationships with clients are built with warmth and collaboration.

Areas of Specialty and Clinical Focus
I specialize in working with adults on relationships, family of origin, trauma, and LGBTQ+ topics. I also enjoy working with clients to address topics including, but not limited to: anxiety, depression, self-worth, parenting, life transitions, and mood management.
