About me
Originally from the beautiful state of Alaska, I love helping couples, families, and individuals rediscover closeness and connection. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University-Idaho in Marriage and Family Studies, where I developed a deep fascination with relationships and the ways people are shaped by the connections in their lives. While working towards my undergrad degree I had several volunteer experiences that have shaped who I am today, including teaching public dating and relationship classes, managing visits to assisted living facilities, advocating for families through campus groups, and teaching English in Nanjing, China.
I went on to pursue my Master’s degree in Family Sciences with an emphasis in Couple and Family Therapy from the University of Kentucky. I loved my time there and gained invaluable clinical experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds on a variety of issues such as family and relational conflict, grief, self-worth challenges, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and suicidality. I especially fell in love with the challenging and rewarding experience of working with couples. I have a passion for creating an environment where each individual feels safe and heard as we work towards building lasting connection.
Approach to Therapy
I have experience working with a variety of clients and I adapt the therapy process to meet each person’s unique needs. I am heavily influenced by Emotion Focused Therapy, Gottman Method Couple Therapy, Experiential Family Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Play Therapy, Bowen Family Systems Theory, and Structural Family Therapy. I have been trained to think systemically, recognizing that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. When meeting with a client, I consider how the different areas of their life influence one another. I value a collaborative process as we look at challenges with a new perspective and get curious about possibilities and solutions together. I am a firm believer that people are inherently good and have more of an ability and desire to change than they often realize. It’s an honor to walk alongside clients as they tap into that potential and begin to heal.
